Brothers and sisters in Christ,

Even to this day, it is hard to believe I actually experienced all this.  I still don’t comprehend the triumphs and tragedy of it all, but in a way I believe God let me have just a bit of a relationship with Ms. Hillary through her Sherpa friends.  I will always cherish this adventure for that reason.

Blessings and God’s safe keeping in this time of trial,
Jeff Baldrige

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

We’re almost done.  Here’s where it really gets tough. Triumph to tragedy.

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

Well, you have come a long way. I’ve finally reached my destination. Two points. If you would like to get some idea of what it’s like flying off the face of a mountain in the Himalayas, you can Google Shangboche airfield in Nepal. It’s an actual takeoff and landing I believe just like I experienced although the Pilatus Porter (used in Vietnam by Air America) is much more reliable now I believe. Second and more important. You cannot believe how important it was to me to be camped facing one of the world’s most important Buddhist temples on Easter. I just felt something had to be done to introduce Christ and the risen Lord at this precious time. You can read how I struggled with something so simple, yet for me, so profound. And, I was truly blessed on this holy day by our God and our Christ.

Blessings and stay safe,

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

We’ve been traveling West to East but are now headed almost directly North up the Dudh Kosi River Valley. Enjoy. There are some amazing pics with a real good idea of what it’s like in the Namche area along the Dudh Kosi River Valley.

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

I cannot tell you how beautiful the natural woods were as we climbed.  Forests full of red, white and pink rhododendrons.  No wonder the Brits sent plant expeditions to Nepal.  Also, check out the snow and the side of the mountain.  The footing was really bad and by that time my toes were so bad that I’d shifted over to adidas.

Lastly, the final picture is of the tea pot/hot water and my tea glass.  You cannot realize how much I longed for that tea at the end of the day.  Delicious!

Blessings and stay safe,

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

And the walk continues.  While the Subject says Day 4, it’s Day 2 on the Trek.  So each file will have the Trek day until completed.

One note, the ups are REALLY major ups; and the downs are REALLY major downs.  On Day 2 my big toes got bloodied big time due to the continue shoving of my feet forward as we went down.

Blessings and Christ protect and cover you and yours,

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

Before we journey on to Day 3, I wanted to embellish the first 2 days a bit.

As I reflect on my arrival in Kathmandu, I cannot emphasize just how important, how amazing my cab driver was.  I didn’t realize it at first.  In fact, I was pretty scared that I was relying on a cab driver for so much.  But, in the end, he was totally reliable and helped make the whole experience possible.

I was naïve’ to think that I could show up at a hotel without a reservation and get in without a problem.  The amazing thing is that the cab driver told me he’d have a room for me in Kathmandu, I just needed to wait for him to return.  I’m not sure if you have ever been in that kind of situation, but not knowing if you’d ever see the guy again, and waiting and waiting, well, it was tough.  Then, there he was and away we went to downtown Kathmandu and the Green Hotel.

My homework on the Sherpa Trekking Service paid off, in more ways than I would have believed, but for now it appeared they knew what they were doing and I’d have my trek fully arranged.  You should have seen the ‘office.’  It did not inspire confidence; however, the man in charge did, and for good reason as you will hear later.

As you come to the end of Day 1, you see that the cab driver had arranged a special viewing for me the next day, and he would pick me up at 0430.  If you think I slept that night, you are wrong.  But you read the verbs so you know how the night went.  What I must emphasize is the journey itself.  It’s pitch black outside and you are going somewhere with someone you really don’t know.  You really aren’t sure if you will ever see light again.  You PRAY a lot.  We stopped at a checkpoint, and then on to the village.  It really did seem like Bethlehem OR maybe the Samaritan village that Jesus stopped at…the well was right there in the middle of the village.  I stayed in the car, and let me tell you, I came to LOVE Indian/Nepalese tea.  There were a lot of visitors, and the view was amazing.

OK, on to Day 3.

Blessings and God’s covering over you and yours during these difficult days,

Blessings from St Francis of Springboro.  While we are suspended from worship, we are not suspended from sharing and blessing one another.

This is part 1 of a journey I took 45 years ago.  It was full of danger, fear, excitement, intrigue and many, many blessings.

Please come along with me as I take you on a journey to the land of high, white mountains, wonderful people, and a family dedicated to the betterment of the Sherpa people.  Now, I Came to the Mountain.

Blessings,

Jeff Baldrige
